2020-01 Hello 2020

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. [Isaiah 43:19]

At the beginning of this month, the world celebrated a new year and a new decade. Usually this is an exciting time that brings the opportunity for a fresh start; however, if you are grieving the loss of someone dear, it can be overwhelming and painful.

You may be reluctant to look forward to a new year as you feel the agonizing reality of missing your loved one and the past that you enjoyed together. You may wonder how you will possibly make it, how you can face another challenge. Well, guess what – you did and you will. But praise God, you will not have to do it alone. Whatever you are facing, cry out to our heavenly Father. His word promises that He is near:
The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. <(Psalm 34:17-20)

Life will change but God never will. At the lowest points in our lives, He is our refuge.
<Psalm 46:1-3 reminds us: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Consider the wisdom of this short poem:
I do not know what still awaits,
Or what the morrow brings;
But with the glad salute of faith,
I hail its open wings!
For this I know — that in my Lord
Shall all my needs be met;
And I can trust the heart of him
Who has not failed me yet.
