2020-03 Spring Forward

This Sunday begins Daylight Saving Time, the practice of advancing clocks during warmer months so that darkness falls later each day according to the clock. Often, we remember which way to advance the clock by the phrase, Spring Forward. Perhaps, we could use that concept with the anchor verses in Deuteronomy 1:6-8 to think about moving forward in our lives:

The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” [Deuteronomy 1:6-8]

We may have suffered unwanted heartache recently or years ago that still evoke raw and unresolved emotions but consider that there comes a time when we have stayed long enough at the same mountain. It is a hard thought and a terrifying thought and often we don’t want to move but our heavenly Father has so much more that He has planned for our lives. As well, our loved ones who have passed on and know more perfectly now would want us to move forward to new, wonderful experiences enjoying our earthly lives to the fullest until we transition to our perfect eternal lives with them in the presence of the Lord.

Spring forward toward new ideas, new hope, and new successes. Don’t look back—you are not going that way. And as always, do everything in your own way in your own time. God loves you and has compassion for you exactly where you are. If you do feel overwhelmed, the staff of Ritchie and Johnson has professional resources available to work with you.
