2023-09 What Are You Doing Today

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY?

On September 10th, 2001:
      >>> 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.
      >>> 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning.
      >>> 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.
      >>> 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.
      >>> 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift.

None of them saw past 10:30 a.m. Sept 11, 2001.

In one single moment life would never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, never take one second of your life for granted.

[Proverbs 27:1] “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
[James 4:13-15] “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? It is but a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

When you live your life recognizing that life is but a vapor, you live differently, more intentionally, and more gratefully. Living with that attitude is different than just existing – it is living life to its fullest and appreciating each day that the Lord blesses you with.

If you are old enough to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, remember how quickly and dramatically things can change. Make time to connect more with the people you love. Make time to relax and rest your mind, have fun. If you can’t take a vacation, take a staycation, make one up. Work as unto the Lord but don’t overwork – even God rested! Serve others, forgive someone. And most of all, draw closer to the Lord Jesus – seek Him while he may be found.

So what are you doing today? Consider living everyday according to Psalm 118:24, ”THIS is the day the Lord has made; we will REJOICE and be glad in it.”

Dear Lord, as we mark the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and mourn all those who were lost on that terrible day, may we be reminded that you are our only true security. Give us compassion to care deeply for others, even those we do not know and give us your certain hope and peace in this uncertain world. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
