To a boy, a father is his first hero. To a girl, a father is her first love. He is a provider, protector, and encourager. He exemplifies strength and character and a Godly father leads his family in the ways of the Lord. Those are a few characteristics of how a father should be but what if that is not the case? What if your earthly father is absent, cruel, incapacitated or deceased? What if he doesn’t have the inborn special love that fathers should have?
The answer is found in the word of God. Psalm 27:10 tells us that “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” We have a heavenly Father whose love and devotion to us are perfect. He will never leave us or forsake us. He is always near. He always has time for us and he loves us unconditionally. Moreover, even if our earthly fathers make every effort to do all the right things, their ways cannot compare to those of our heavenly Father, almighty God.
Psalm 68:5 says, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” God has a special place in His heart for the fatherless whether the fathers did not live up to the job or whether we had wonderful fathers who have passed on from this life. He knows that we still need to be loved, cherished, protected, and valued. In Him, we have the perfect father.
