July is the month that we celebrate the independence and freedom of the United States of America and honor those who fought and sacrificed for that outcome. However, there is one who chose to shed his blood for every man, woman, boy, and girl in every nation to have the ultimate freedom and opportunity for life eternal.
The Bible tells us in John 8:36 that this freedom stands above all other freedom; it is special. It says, So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
As Christians, the special favor and freedom of God is available to us because of what Christ did on the cross not anything that we did; however, we must not abuse our freedom. On the contrary, we are free to live and not have to worry about how our behavior affects God’s attitude towards us because his attitude is one of love and acceptance that is guaranteed by the sacrifice of Christ.
Galatians 5:1 tells us, It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. We are free to rest in Christ and in our freedom, we can live life without fear.
Freedom is also represented in grief. You are free to grieve and express your grief (and you should) as denial can make it more crushing and overwhelming over time. On the other hand, you have the freedom to ultimately move through your grief and heal.
Someone has wisely noted that grief is a process, not an event. The death of someone dear to you changes you forever. You can be happy again, but you will never be the same again.
The Ritchie & Johnson staff prays that you have a wonderful month of July. We encourage you to celebrate freedom in Christ and life choices. If you have questions or need assistance, email us through our Contact page or call us at (304) 252-4115. We are here for you and ready to serve.
