2019-12 A Savior is Born

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [Isaiah 9:6]

We thought we were just having fun, but we were making memories.

That statement is so true as we near Christmas, particularly for those of us who have lost loved ones. We look back now at the hilarious moments, the sweet and touching moments, and even the moments that seemed to be mundane at the time and realize that they are now only memories. They are memories so entrenched in our hearts that we will carry them with us until our own time on earth is finished.

We will remember the smells of pies and cookies baking, the delight of the children, the things that went perfectly, and the things that at the time seemed disastrous that we now laugh at and would not change for anything. We will remember the Christmas carols and decorations, some beautiful and some not so much. Contrary to the happy memories, we may experience sad memories of those who have passed on during this season where there is such an expectation of delight and joy. While it may be a difficult and long journey working through the sorrow, it can be comforting to imagine your loved ones being with the Christ-child – the savior – the King of Kings during the celebration of His birth!

As we go through this Christmas season, keep in mind as you enjoy loved ones, old traditions and new ones that you are making more precious memories. You will be making memories of a lifetime to be enjoyed with fondness and smiles as tears form at the same time. The memories will transcend years, miles, and death. Cherish them and make them deliberate and special.

Most importantly, cherish and celebrate the greatest gift – the one whom we celebrate at Christmas – Jesus Christ. Because of Him, we have the opportunity to receive eternal life through Him. No earthly gift, celebration, or memory will compare to living and reigning with Him forever.
