Obituary For Associate Pastor Elder Janet L. Hairston

Elder Janet Leigh Hairston, 64, of Beckley, WV, departed her earthly life and was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2024, after a short illness.

Janet was born November 1, 1959, in Beckley, WV, to the late Theodore B. and Rev. Constance G. Tucker Allen.

Janet, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her grandparents, Theodore B. and Ruth E. Allen; sister, Cynthia Ann Allen; mother-in-love, Ruby O. Hairston, father-in-love, Roy L. Hairston; brothers-in-love, Romanus L. “Chip” Hairston and Roy L. "Butch" Hairston, Jr.

Janet, growing up in Lester, WV, and a 1977 graduate of Liberty High School, lovingly known as "Lady" or "Lady J", was greatly loved by all who knew her. That love was exemplified on July 5,1980, when she married the love of her life, Gary “Nickey” Hairston. Soon thereafter they relocated to Beckley, WV, to share over forty-three years of life and love.

Janet, her professional career included her employment as a medical coder for Beckley Hospital until it closed and was also the Housing Manager for the Beckley Housing Authority, where she retired after several years of dedicated service.

Janet received Christ at a very young age and was restored in 1987. In 1991, she joined United Apostolic Faith Church (UAFC) under the pastorate of Suffragan Bishop Timothy Schofield. She responded to the call of God and embraced the ministry - preaching her initial sermon on March 22, 1992, at UAFC.

Elder Hairston was a member of Heart of God Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Fred T. Simms. She was ordained as an Evangelist on October 31, 2004 and was elevated a few years later to Associate Pastor. This anointed vessel of God was blessed by the Lord to preach in various cities such as Detroit, MI; Lexington, KY; Tampa FL; locally, and throughout the state of West Virginia. Her desire was to evangelize the world by delivering the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Janet, not only a Minister, Evangelist, Elder, and an Associate Pastor, did not shy away from others of ministry that needed her assistance. Her gifts were demonstrated through her tenure as the very first church secretary of Heart of God Ministries, church clerk, Women's Sunday School teacher, member of the Missionary Dept., Pastor of Missions, Board of Trustees, the Minister's Guild, former Director of the Nursing Home Ministry where she served until the coronavirus pandemic halted services. Her incomparable anointed ability and skill as an altar worker was undeniable, which resulted in her recent promotion to the Director of Altar Workers. This Woman of God was also the visionary and producer of the Prayer CD that is still used in all HOGM corporate prayer sessions.

Janet, her ministerial work spanned into the community and abroad lending to her serving as a Chaplain for local medical facilities, host of Sunday Morning Meditation radio broadcast for the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor on WWNR AM 62, and Spiritual Advisor for Kingdom United Fellowship. Her gifts were acknowledged by the Juneteenth Festival Committee in 2017, when she was bestowed with the "Spirit of Change" Honor's Award.

Janet, along with her loving husband of almost 44 years, leaves to cherish her precious memories and continue her legacy their three children, Gary LaMont Grant (Sarah) of Mt. Holly, NC, Minister La’Kisha Meschelle Allen of Beckley, and Tearnee Nichole Hairston of Tampa, FL; Godson John Cash Moore of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Sonai Page, Ja'Cobe Harville, Gary "JoJo" Hairston (who stole her heart), and Elijah “EJ" Page, all of Beckley, WV, Isabella Spain, Donovan Grant, and Nicholas Grant, all of Mt. Holly, NC; three great-grandchildren, A’Lyana "Yana" Page, Julian “Juju” Keller, and Emani Adams; brothers, Richard “Glen” Allen, Michael Allen, and Kenneth "Sam" Allen, all of Lester, WV and Ronald "Fella” Allen (Lisa) of Beckley, WV. Her love extended also to her spiritual daughters, Tammie Gatewood and LaQuenta Lowe, both of Beckley, WV; special nephew, LaRon W. Allen and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many adoring friends to include Deacon Joe Charles Thomas.

Although we mourn because she is not here, we celebrate her life and where she is. And we know that she, "fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith": and we believe that, "Henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give her at that day: and not to her only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing."

Now, as she would always say as she helped us all get ready for Sunday morning service; "You ought to throw up your hands, open up your mouth, and give God some praise!!!

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Friday, March 1, 2024 at Heart of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Viewing will be 10:00AM-12:00PM. The family will receive friends one-hour prior.

Pastor Janet you will be missed. My deepest condolences to your family. My heart hurts for them. I appreciate your advice and your help and prayers. We worked together in the nursing home ministry. When you found out that I was interested in that ministry. You and Nick always made sure that I had a ride. We also worked together with the Good News Club at Beckley Elementary until Covid. You also gave me the opportunity to teach Sunday school. The Women if Purpose will miss you. One of the things you did was prayed with Matt as he received the Holy Ghost. When he was going through, you told me not to say a lot to just pray. I followed your advice and he came back to church. Thank you for the things you did. You always sent me links for different ministers to encourage me. We will miss you Elder Sandi and Matt Milam

My heart hurts. One of my dearest friends. 💔😭 To know you was to love you. The Lord allowed our paths to cross over 33 years ago. You always amazed me every time you stood to decree and declare the Word of the Lord. You stood flat foot and walked heavy in the anointing God placed on your life. You never wavered. You told it when people wanted to hear it and when they didn't. You were always in my top five (5) favorite preachers. Down through the years soooo many memories I have and will forever cherish. You were the epitome of Love, Honor, Virtue, Character & Integrity. You were always there whenever I needed you. Whether to minister, or just a listening ear. Many of times you were my rock, my calm and my peace. The many conversations we had, times I'd be in stitches laughing till my side hurt and even the times I'd call you broken with tears falling down my face, you cried with me. You were always such an inspiration and I'll never, ever regret one moment with you, whether it was a mothering moment, a big sister moment, a moment among friends, you NEVER changed. I'll never, ever forget that and will always carry you in my heart. You were there for me soooo many times had it not been for you, times I have no idea where I'd be. I'll forever cherish our last conversation on the phone and I will also forever cherish the last message you sent me 2 months ago, still fighting and standing victorious. This literally hurts, however I understand this isn't goodbye, just good night. Hug my daddy for me. I'll see y'all when I get there. Gonna Miss You my friend, & Associate Pastor, Elder Janet "Lady J" Hairston. I'll love you forever. My thoughts and prayers are with Elder Nick, my Sistah friend, Minister La'Kisha, Tearnee, The grandchildren & entire family. Thank you for sharing such a profound gift to the World with me. #ForeverGrateful

Janet aka J as I would call was the 1st friend when my family and I moved to Beckley at UAFC. She stepped in when I needed most by watching over my sons when I was about to give birth to my last son. She was very encouraging and laughter and her words "Girl You Funny " with her WV twang had me laughing 😂 all the time. J will be greatly missed and my heart is saddened by her passing but rejoicing that she as entered into her rest because her work here on earth has been completed. To cousin Nick, Kisha, TT and the rest of the family my heart felt condolences and prayers and May the arms of God hold each of you giving peace, comfort and strength. Rest on my dear Sister J and I will see you in the morning!💔💔💔🥰🥰🥰
