Obituary For Bishop Bobbie Tunstalle

Bishop Bobbie Lee Tunstalle, 72, of Beckley went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 28, 2023.

Bishop Tunstalle was born September 12, 1951, to the late Romanceles Tunstalle and Evangelist Thelma (Stewart) Tunstalle. He is the third eldest of seven children born to this union. His formal education began at Lillybrook School, and then he entered East Killivan Middle School, Killarney, WV. Upon moving to Beckley, WV, he attended East Park Elementary School, Beckley Jr. High School, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Beckley College and Bluefield State College. Bishop Tunstalle worked in the Respiratory Therapy/Cardiopulmonary field for 18 years, and the Mental Health field for 3 years. Bishop Tunstalle started a basketball outreach program for young males in the communities of East Park, East Beckley and New River Park to bring them together to have fun, provide strong positive role model and to instill the Word of God in them. Bishop Tunstalle had gained the respect of all the young men both on and off the courts.

Bishop Tunstalle was saved as a teenager and acknowledged his call to the ministry in his mid-20s. While serving as choir director at his uncle's church, he preached his first unofficial sermon at the First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights, WV. His first official sermon was preached at the Upper Room Free and Independent Holiness Church, Beckley, WV in 1978.

Bishop Tunstalle founded Faith Temple of Deliverance Church in 1979. The first assembly was held at the New Era District Building the first Sunday in December 1979. Other sanctuaries for Faith Temple were located in Beckley on Simpkins Street and Maplewood Lane. The current sanctuary for Faith Temple of Deliverance Church T.P.C., is 119 Deegans Street in Beckley, WV. Bishop Tunstalle's vision for Faith Temple of Deliverance Church can be found in Isaiah 61:1-4, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives..." In the past years, Faith Temple of Deliverance's Church Choir, under the direction of Bishop Tunstalle, has sung with such artists as Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Myrna Summers, the Clark Sisters, the Charles Fold Singers, The Bernard Upshaw Singers, and Shirley Caesar. Bishop Tunstalle also took part in the filming of Bishop T. D. Jakes 25th anniversary celebration in 2002. Bishop Tunstalle served as HYPU President for the Free and Independent Holiness Churches (Free and Independent Churches of Our Lord Jesus, Inc.) as well as directed the youth choir at Whitby Upper Room Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Ernest Stewart Sr. He also served as the director of the Free & Independent Holiness Church adult choir until he accepted his calling to the ministry.

Bishop Tunstalle was instrumental in encouraging Pastor Sandra Jackson of Word & Truth COGIC Beckley, after a Faith Temple of Deliverance Women’s Conference over 15 years ago, of the need for uniting saved and unsaved women, in the surrounding areas of Beckley, WV, to come together as one in fellowship of which Pastor Jackson did move forward as the visionary to the Glory of God.

Bishop Tunstalle was the pastor of Faith Temple of Deliverance and Vice-Bishop of the Triumphant Pentecostal Church (Apostolic), International. Bishop Tunstalle was the former WV District Overseer for the Triumphant Pentecostal Church. When starting Faith Temple of Deliverance Church and throughout his ministerial career, Bishop Tunstalle often commented, “All I wanted to do was play the drums!” Prior to joining the Triumphant Pentecostal Churches, Bishop Tunstalle was a member of the Free and Independent Churches of Our Lord Jesus, Inc.

Bishop Tunstalle, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his brother, James Tunstalle; sister, Mary (Tunstalle) Claytor; grandparents, John O. and Ida Lee Stewart and Banks and Mary Tunstalle; nephew, Curtis Miller; great-nephews, TyRon Hopkins and Karhlyle Hopkins; great-niece Tamyiko Tunstalle; uncles, James Tunstalle, Banks Tunstalle Jr., Dennis Kelly, Raymond Tunstalle, Harless Tunstalle, Bishop John A Stewart, Bishop Stanaford Stewart, Elder Leroy Stewart, and Elder James Stewart; aunts, Inez Morris, Hazel Johnson, Dorothy Tunstalle, Evangelist Betty Stewart, Evangelist Gorgeous Stewart, Rosa Lee Stewart, and Lilly Moore and brother-in-law, Garrick Hopkins Sr.

My memories of Uncle Bobbie go way back to 7th St in East Park, Free and Independent. However, the relationship went beyond the church doors. We were family. My mom was more like a sister to him than a friend. That relationship lasted all my life, and was so strong that he requested that my she sing at his home going while he was ill. From drummer to choir director to pastor, I was blessed to witness each one of those phases of his life and he remained the same humble man he'd always been. Kind, considerate, and loving....all adequate descriptions of Bishop. My prayer is that God will grant peace and comfort to the hearts of all who knew and loved him. RIH Uncle Bobbie💜💜💜🕊✝️🙏🏽

Years ago as a child around the age of 4 years old I was admitted to Appalachian Hospital along with my brother with pneumonia and the Doctors had us in croop tents. It was this man who came in and gave us our breathing treatments along with his mother, Evangelist Thelma Tunstalle who worked in respiratory therapy at the time. Several years later the Lord allowed our paths to cross again and this same man used to set in our home from midnight until time for me to go to school as a Home Child Care supervisor, little did I know that the Lord was setting the stage to place us under his leadership at Faith Temple of Deliverance from the time I was 12 years old until I turned 19. He went from being a respiratory therapist, home child care supervisor, friend, Pastor & Spiritual Father. Soooo many memories flood my mind from the years at 119 Deegans Street and abroad that I'm grateful and cherish every single moment that the Lord allowed me to be under his leadership. We had some absolutely out of this world services, revivals, conferences, choir workshops & Watch Night Services you wouldn't believe!! He birthed me in Ministry almost 25 years ago this coming April. He was there for me and our entire family through the good, bad, ugly & indifferent. I honor the fact that a couple years ago he opened the door for me to come home and Minister at the church again as a Son of the ministry. When I lost my dad over 2 years ago despite his own health challenges he was there and preached my dad's Homegoing as only My dad & I would've wanted it. In fact he left dialysis to come straight and preach the Homegoing and to me I'll never forget that as long as I live. I was blessed to go and spend some time with him about a month or so ago and I cherish the very last conversation we had and the things he shared with me. He was truly a general in the Kingdom. This morning I awoke from a dream that literally had me shook and I shared it with my wife. So puzzling that I couldn't get myself together, only to understand a few hours later what it was all about. This morning the body of Christ at large lost a true Soldier and Man of God from Labor to reward. Our hearts our hurting, however we celebrate the victory that He's resting in the arms of the Master in that city whose builder & maker is God. Rest well Vice-Bishop B. L. Tunstalle, you fought a great fight, kept the faith & finished the course. We'll forever love, miss and remember you but rejoice in the fact that we'll see you again. Our thoughts & prayers go out to the Tunstalle, Hopkins, Dillard. Claytor, Grayson & Stewart Families as well as the Faith Tenple of Deliverance TPC, Free & Independent Upper Room Holiness & Triumphant Pentecostal Church Families. Love you all very much and I'm here if you need me.

When it comes to you, there will never be another one. You've came into my life when I was sinking and planted God's roots into my soul. Now my foundation is Matt 7:24-25. You've displayed the actions of a real man, Christian , and a father. Your faith in Jesus provided a lifetime of stability to everyone you encountered. A true vessel for God to use and depend on. Since your Exodus with the rest of God's children on November 28, 2023, Ive felt lost and alone without you. Your death may have paralyzed me for a moment but our memories will hold me and keep me sound. Each tear I cry will reflect the laughter, Bible lessons, basketball games, haircuts, traveling, and the one on one times you've spent teaching me to be God's child. Pops, in this life, I will forever miss you and love you. I'm hurting but I will keep your favorite scripture close to my heart. Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Love Your son, Terah
