Obituary For Deacon Maurice Lorenzo Arline

Deacon Maurice Lorenzo Arline, 66, of Beckley, WV passed Thursday, March 27, 2025.

Maurice was born on October 15, 1958 in Glen Rogers, WV, to Clyde and Vivian Arline.

Maurice was the eldest of five children. He shared his childhood with siblings, Madeline Denise Philogene, Clyde Arline Jr., Andrew Arline, and Chris Arline.

Maurice’s journey took him from Hempstead, NY, to Eccles, WV, where he attended Trap Hill High School, graduating as part of the final class.

Maurice, at the age of 19, joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA and Stuttgart, Germany. It was in Germany that he met his best friend and the love of his life, Goldie Moss. Together, they served from 1976 to 1980, and their bond culminated in marriage on June 13, 1981, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Eccles, WV. Maurice, Goldie, and their daughter Stephanie began their life together, welcoming Maura Rose into the world in 1983.

Maurice’s educational journey was remarkable. He trained as a Radiological Technologist in the Army, as an Ultrasound Technologist at the VA Medical Center. He earned a BA in Business Administration and a BS in Computer Science from Beckley College, followed by a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing Management from Concord College.

Maurice’s professional impact was profound. He served as a Radiological Technologist at Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA and in the US Army. He was the first Ultrasound Technologist in Southern WV, supporting multiple medical facilities. Maurice also excelled as a Computer Specialist – Systems Analysis and Vision Imaging Coordinator at the VA Medical Center, Beckley, WV, where he held leadership responsibilities across the eastern United States.

Maurice retired in 2019 after 41 years of service with the Federal Government.

Maurice, socially, was a pillar of his community. As a child, he helped his mother, Vivian Arline, deliver food to the elderly in their community. Maurice became a Deacon at Shady Grove Baptist Church at age 24 and continued his service at First Baptist Church of North Beckley. His presence supported and uplifted the congregation through both great and challenging times.

Maurice’s kindness extended beyond the church; he was known for praying for coworker’s family members in the hospital and mentoring those in need. His friends knew him as a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, always dignified and never denigrating the competition, even during tough seasons.

Maurice led the Employee Association at the VA Hospital, an organization to care for employees and families during need and served on the board of the Raleigh County Federal Credit Union. He also was on the board for the NAACP and served as a mentor to young men at Woodrow Wilson.

Maurice was a doting grandfather, delighting in sharing videos of his granddaughter at track meets, blowing bubbles as “Pa” with his youngest granddaughters, and working in the yard with his grandsons.

Maurice is survived by his beloved wife, Goldie; daughters, Stefanie Alleyne and Maura (Flint) Johnson; grandchildren, Mikah Alleyne, Markus Alleyne, Makon Alleyne, River Johnson, and Willow Johnson; mother, Vivian Arline; siblings, Madeline Denise (Matthew) Philogene, Andrew (Sandy) Arline, and Chris (Rina) Arline; nieces and nephews, Nolan Philogene, Lydia Philogene, Andrea Arline, Alexandria Arline, and Olivia Arline; special niece, Helen (Timothy) Dixon; special grandnieces and grandnephew, Novalise Dixon and Elior Dixon; and fur baby, Nala Arline.

Maurice’s impact will continue to be felt for decades by those who never met him. His actions changed lives, and the inspiration he provided will move forward through the people he touched.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Heart of God Ministries
1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens
Prosperity.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may visit with the family one-hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern WV, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley,

My name is Randy Dunkle and I'm a Coordinator and Instructor for Guitars for Vets. Maurice took a 10 Week Guitar Course in January of 2020 and Graduated in April of 2020. He was a fast learner, and he told me that he had used the guitar while in Worship Service at the Church that he attended and I was so proud of him. Maurice and I also worked together at the VA Medical Center for over 30 years. He was a great Christian and a Wonderful Friend. Maurice will be greatly missed, I pray for Goldie and his children and the rest of the family during this time of sorrow. May God be with you.

To the Arline family, you have my deepest, heartfelt sympathy. Maurice was an amazing man and gentleman. He always had the right words to say. Working at the VA I would stop by his office to chat frequently. He would always provide inspirational words. His work at the VA will continue to live on as platforms he built from the ground up is still widely used. He truly will be missed. Mark Walker

My thoughts and prayers for the family. Maurice was my supervisor for a couple of years at the VA, but more than that he always made our team truly seem like family. It was a blessing that we could talk freely about our faith and be there to encourage one another. Maurice will truly be missed.

I was lucky to work with Maurice for almost 20 years, first as my co-worker and then as my supervisor at the VA. He was one of the finest men I have ever met. Maurice openly talked about his faith and encouraged me in my faith. He always called me his sister and I was truly blessed for him to be my brother in Christ. His goodness and faithfulness were evident in everything he did, every conversation he had. It was a honor to call him my friend and my life was better simply from knowing Maurice. No doubt he is now rejoicing in heaven. My deepest sympathies to Goldie and all his family members and sincere prayers for strength during the days ahead. Isaiah 41:10 Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Karin Ren
