Obituary For Elder Roger Lee Jones

On December 9, 2022 Elder Roger Lee Jones, more affectionately known to many as “Pin Head,” transitioned from earth to glory surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Roger was born on December 29, 1954 in Welch, WV to the late Elder Rosetta Robinson Keith and was raised along with his mother by the Godly man he considered his father, the late Elder William Keith.

Roger received his formal education in the McDowell County school system and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon completing his duty, he returned home and married the love of his life Minister Eunice McDowell on September 6, 1977.

Elder Jones accepted Christ at an early age being baptized under the leadership of Bishop JH Easley at the Mt. Bethel United Holy Church in Anawalt, WV.

In 2009, when Pastor Eunice received and consented to take the leadership role as Pastor of God’s House of Miracles, Roger became a support to her by keeping the grass cut, painting, and being an all-around handyman.

But it was in 2012, when Elder Roger Jones, fully committed his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and began to serve in his full capacity. He was ordained a Deacon in 2013 and in May 2016, Roger accepted his call into the ministry and preached his initial sermon. Praise God! Bringing to fruition the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 7:14, NIV: For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and Luke 1:45, and blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.

Elder Jones served faithfully as the President of the Men’s Department, a Sunday School Teacher, he led the “It’s Praying Time” conference call ministry each day beginning at noon, assisted with the “Feed My Sheep,” food distribution ministry, and was a member of the God’s House of Miracles choir.

Although he and Bishop Eunice never had children, Roger, was instrumental in helping to babysit and raise his nieces and nephews. Roger was fun loving, and everyone knew at the church picnics or family gatherings he was the first one to sit at the table looking for an opponent to “beat” in a game of dominoes or UNO.

He was also an avid gardener, making sure his yard was always cut and his flower garden was always blooming.

Elder Jones, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his uncle, Johnny Moore, his brothers, Larry Avery and Kenneth Avery, sisters, Delores Robinson and Sharon Moore.

Roger leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend, partner, pastor and wife (45 years), Bishop Eunice Jones; brother, John Dwight “DD” Robinson of Princeton, WV; sisters, Peggy Moore of Hampton, VA; Darlene Keith of Fredericksburg, VA; Kay (Robert) Walker of Fayette County, WV and Michelle Keith of Riverdale, GA; brother-in-law, Dewey Phillips of Beckley, WV; special nephew, Robert Walker Jr.; special nieces, Shenelle Robinson and Tallena Wiggins; Godsons, Wayne Jones and Shawn Keller; Goddaughters, Robin Harbison, Dorothy Ross, Wanda Wilson, Dorletta Hairston and Marquita Durgan; special great-nephew: Prince; special great-great-nephew, Liam; exceptional friends, Richard Harvey, Sr., Thomas McCombs, Robert James Bradley, Tony Wilson and Carl Spriggs, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Welcome Baptist Church 206 Eighth St. Beckley with Bishop Eunice Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior.

To the entire family of Elder Roger Jones, with love and respect to his beloved wife Bishop Eunice Jones, our hearts are broken and saddened at this time. But our hearts are rejoicing knowing Elder Jones is resting peacefully with the Lord. I had the privilege to know this family from the days of Mt Bethel in Anawalt Wv. May days of visiting my grandmother we’d attended church together. Elder Roger could bring laughter to any room and would leave everyone laughing and smiling. I remember the family had a singing group in Anawalt as well. His mom upon joining the church said to Bishop Easley, “ I am joining here, and I’ve got children and we all sing. Bishop Jones please know we’re here and we’re praying for you! You’ve exemplified strength and stood on Faith through many many years. You’ve always been positive when others weren’t. You always have told us “I know God can. Now we say to you. We know God will see you through this and strengthen your Heart and Faith. We love you all. Deacon Michael and Elder Yvonne (Staples)- Brown

To Bishop Eunice Jones and Family, God in His infinite wisdom welcomed our brother home; to a prepared place for those that have fought a good fight, kept the faith, and have finished their course. Our brother Roger's eyes were on the crown of righteousness that he worked so tirelessly to achieve. He wanted to know his God in the power His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering. He accomplished his goal. Then came the day that the prize he so earnestly strived for was within his reach and he grabbed hold of it without hesitation. We will all miss him, but we are thankful for his life. He will always be remembered as a sign pointing the way! We love you, The Incorporation, Bishop Sue Heartwell, Pastor
