Obituary For Elder Sharon Dale Moore Hughes
On May 25, 2020, Elder Sharon Dale Moore Hughes finished her race as her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called her home.
Elder Hughes was born on November 11, 1950 to the late Elder Cleo Moore Sr. and Margaret Delores Smith Moore.
Elder Hughes was known by all who knew her as a devoted, loving and caring wife and mother.
Building on the foundation of her late father and mother, she was a spiritual mentor and role model for her family, teaching and leading by example, the joy of serving the Lord. Like her mother, she instilled in her children the way she was taught - the true meaning of family, compassion, empathy and love. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana, letting her grandchildren get away with almost anything. Elder Hughes also shared her love with food, such as homemade bread, fried chicken and rice. She made friends everywhere she went and would always stop what she was doing to pray for someone in need.
Prior to her becoming a stay at home wife, she worked at the VA Medical Center for ten years.
Elder Hughes was the retired Pastor of St. John United Holy Church. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, singing, praising the Lord and spending quality time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. God blessed Elder Hughes with her wonderful and devoted husband, Walter Andrew Hughes, as they celebrated 41 years of marriage before the Lord called her home. They had four children, Tink Brown, Susan (Terrence) Turner, Courtney Hughes and Morgan Hughes; eight grandchildren, Elijah Redd, Brianna Lilly, Jaiden Lilly, Brooklynn Horton, Trenton Hughes, Preston Clary, McKenzie Hughes and Taylor Abreu and three great-grandchildren.
As a member of St. John Holy Church for over 50 years and where she preached the gospel for the last 39 years, Elder Hughes loved her calling. She was a trailblazer and a treasure to the body of Christ- ministering, pouring into and ushering people into Christ. She shared her gifts and the anointing God placed on her life with everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, anxiously awaiting her arrival in Heaven are her brother, Cleo Moore Jr.; brothers-in-law, James “Terry” Harris and Joel “Jody” Price and nephews, Malcolm L. Johnson and Stephen J. Harris.
Left to continue her legacy and cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Walter Andrew Hughes of Beckley; four children, Tink Brown of Beckley, Susan (Terrence) Turner of Johnson City, TN, Courtney Hughes of Austin, TX and Morgan Hughes of Johnson City, TN; brothers, Elder David Leo (Linda) Moore of Beckley, Apostle Curtis D. (Linda) Moore of Dalton, GA, Kevin J. Moore of Beckley and Jonathan V. (Andrea) Moore, both of Beckley; sisters, Pastor Alice G. Harris and Lynn M. (William) Robinson, both of Beckley and Dorean D. Price and Kay F. (Michael) Jones, both of Aiken, SC; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be 1:00PM Monday, June 1, 2020 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity with Elder David Leo Moore officiating.
