Obituary For Mr. Alfred Leftwich Jr.

On Friday October 13, 2023, Alfred “Al” answered the call of our Heavenly Father and completed his journey on earth and went home to be with the
Lord.

Alfred “Al” James Leftwich Jr., 67, was born June 27, 1956, in Oak Hill, WV to Alfred James Leftwich Sr and Alberta Cheatham Leftwich.

Alfred “Al” was a graduate of Collins High School Class of 1976, where he was a member of Collins High School football team. After graduating, he became a member of the Lochgelly Boxing Association for many years, he also was a coach for his sisters, Camisha and Felisha, basketball team prior to moving to Beckley.

Al, after moving to Beckley, coached his sons, AJ and Michael, for East Beckley Wildcats and Beckley West Wrestling team, he also coached the AAU Junior Olympics track team with the mother of his sons, Lelia “Cat” Leftwich.

Al, had a love for training for many years, it starts with him running through the city of Summerlee and the city of Beckley, where he would compete in the All Comers meets in Charleston at Laidley Field on the weekends.

Al was a member of the YMCA before becoming a personal trainer for many years, where Al would greet you with his precious smile and a hug.

Al was very passionate in his training to help everyone that he encountered to reach their goals, it didn’t matter how old or how young you were, he would bring the best out of you. Not only did he love training, but he also enjoyed dancing with people, so they made him instructor of the hip hop dance class. Al also was the AAA instructor of the triple A which stands for “Al’s Awesome Abs.” If you didn’t have muscles to flex, Al didn’t mind flexing his to show you what hard work and dedication looks like.

Al enjoyed playing pick-up basketball on Sundays after attending church service.

Al gave his life to the Lord at an early age. Al attended Summerlee Baptist Church until he moved to Beckley, and he still continued his worship there. Al also attended Outreach for Christ Christian Center for many years. Al found his new church home at Family Worship Center. On the Sunday before his passing, he attended church services where he told a friend that he had found his church home where he wanted to become a member of the church, but he was called home by the Lord before he could become a member.

Al was an employee of the Beckley Water Company for 39 years un- til his retirement in June 2021.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred James Leftwich Sr and Alberta Cheatham Leftwich and brother, Rufus Henry Leftwich.

Alfred leaves behind to cherish his memory, Lelia “Cat” Leftwich, the mother of his sons; his oldest son, Alfred “AJ” Leftwich III and Mi- chael Omar Leftwich; daughter-in-law, Kushom Leftwich; stepdaughter, Brianna Jackson; grandsons, Elijah Leftwich, Kylaan Leftwich, and the one who had his heart, Makani Leftwich; his youngest brother, Keith (Rose) Leftwich of Charleston, WV; his oldest sister, Betty (Walker) Loving of Cleveland, OH, Lynette (Marvin) Hinton of Beckley, WV, Pamela (Melvin) Lynch of Charlotte, Camisha Leftwich and Felisha Leftwich, both of Atlanta, GA of St. Louis, MO; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
