Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Bernard Jerome "Stogie" Owens Sr., 92, of Mt. Hope, WV died Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Born March 24, 1924 in Turkey Knob, WV, he was the son of the late Ella Miles Baker.

He was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Hope, where he served faithfully on the usher board until his health began to fail him. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed for 19 years as a coal miner, retiring from the West Virginia Department of Public Safety in December 1988.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Robinson Owens

Those left to cherish precious memories are his children, Bernard J. Owens Jr., Bernetta D. Owens and Ella Y. Owens, all of Mt. Hope and Donita Lynn Owens of Gibbsboro, NJ; granddaughter, Jedda L. Owens of Charleston, WV; great-grandson, Justin N. Owens and great-granddaughter, Sydney Y. Owens, both of Mt. Hope, WV and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 205 South Fayette Ave., Mt. Hope, WV with Rev. Robert Morton officiating.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
