Obituary For Mr. Brandon G. L. Sherrod
Mr. Brandon Gerald Leon Sherrod was born September 7, 1995 in Charleston, WV, to Gerald (Jerry) and Robin Sherrod. Brandon transitioned to eternal life on February 22, 2025 at the age of 29.
Brandon, from the womb, knew Jesus, church and gospel music. Brandon was a church baby and grew up in the church. Most importantly, Brandon loved the presence of God. Brandon was a true worshipper and praiser. He was dedicated back to God at a very early age. Each day started with his mother anointing his head and praying over him. Each evening, before bed, we gathered in his bedroom where his father prayed over him. God uniquely intertwined our family. His Uncle Ronald referred to him as Bapto-Pentecostal. (smile) Brandon, which means “Beacon Light,” was truly that. Brandon was born completely healthy with no abnormalities. After an allergic reaction to the pertussis vaccination at the age of four (4) months old, his life totally changed. He developed seizures which caused severe developmental delays. Brandon, of course, defeated all odds. He accomplished so many things despite his disabilities. Brandon was such a loving person. Brandon loved people, music, toys and food (not necessarily in that order).
Brandon graduated in 2017 from St. Albans High School. Brandon was involved in various therapeutic programs. He loved horseback riding, and he loved water therapy. He was known at water therapy as “waterdog.” Brandon has numerous medals from participating in the Special Olympics. Brandon also had the pleasure of personally meeting the Harlem Globetrotters. Brandon was a poster child for advertisements for the local Children's Therapy Clinic. Brandon made the local newspaper when he was on stage (in his wheelchair) performing with a traveling
African Dance Group. Brandon loved traveling. He loved the beach and the ocean water. He vacationed annually with his maternal grandparents at the beach on his birthday each year. He flew to Mexico on one occasion. His grandfather said he loved traveling with Brandon because he always received the royal treatment both in air and on land. Brandon was fully embraced by family and friends. His church family played such a vital role in his life.
Brandon was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and District Elder Delores Hubbard and Reverend Henry and Inez Sherrod; uncles, Henry Sherrod, Jr. and Richard Sherrod; aunts, Gail Martin Hubbard and Vivian Hopkins.
Brandon leaves behind a lineage of strong love and strong faith.
Brandon is survived by his parents; uncles, Perry (Addie), Damon (Brenda), Faron, Kevin and Jeffrey (Janice) Hubbard, James (Roxanne), Howard (Brenda), Clifford (Terri), Ronald (Anessa) and Steve Sherrod; along with a host of cousins, family and friends.
Psalms 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church 821 B St. St. Albans, WV. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, So. Charleston, WV.
