Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Cornelious Van “CV” Thompson, 88, of Beckley went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 4, 2023.

Born September 5, 1935 in Grant Town, WV he was the son of the late Cornelious Van and Nina Thompson Smith.

“CV” or “Pops” as he was affectionately known, was a military veteran, devoted to faith, family, friendships, and especially a wide range of
community service that one of his dearest friends summarized best: “He regularly visited and had prayer with the sick and shut-in in nursing homes, hospitals and their homes. He worked with Raleigh County Schools with the Grandparents’ Program with kindergarten and pre-school children, volunteered serving during the Thanksgiving and Christmas
holidays for the Beckley Community holiday dinners, he was Sunday School superintendent and Bible Study teacher, to name just a few.” He
was much loved for his charisma, wisdom and wit. He is and will forever be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all but two of his siblings and several nieces and nephews.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his sister, Zelma Wright; brother, Kent (Yvonne) Smith; daughter, Mikki Fontanilla; two sons, Erston and Kene Thompson; three grandsons, Christopher, Jaylon and Khristian Thompson; an abundance of nephews and nieces; and Kristene
Thompson, the mother of his three children, his former wife and beloved life-long friend.

Graveside service will be 3:00PM Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley with Elder Leo Moore officiating.
