Obituary For Mr. Ed Allen Grasty

Mr. Ed Allen Grasty of Oak Hill (Harlem Heights), WV departed this life at his home Sunday, July 21, 2019.

Ed was born May 18, 1957 in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of the late Hewitt Melvin Grasty Sr, and Thelma Mae Johnson Grasty.

Ed attended an alternative trade school due to a birth defect, however, he excelled in the field of carpentry and plumbing (if it broke, Ed could fix it). He assisted Mr. Parks for many years with carpentry work up until his passing. Ed has always been known as the hardest working member of the family; it wasn’t uncommon for him to cut grass from sun up ‘til the going down of the same.

Ed was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church Summerlee WV and faithfully attended Outreach for Christ Christian Center, Beckley, WV.

Ed, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hewitt Melvin "Hillbilly" Grasty Jr, and Dewayne Lee “Dobbie” Grasty.

Ed leaves to cherish precious memories five sisters, Catheria Grasty Swafford of Charleston, WV, Margaret Grasty of Oak Hill, WV, Jaqueline "Jackie" Grasty (Ronald) Coleman of Scarbro, WV, Meloney "Lonnie" Grasty Rosen (Greg Rosen) of Indianapolis, IN and Demetrice "Mickey" Grasty of Oak Hill, WV; two brothers, his twin, Edward "Red Dog" Grasty of Barboursville, WV and Mark Grasty of Newport News, VA; uncle, Joe Louis Johnson Sr of Chicago, IL; beloved cousins, Clarence Wallace, Ella Dorsey, Delia Coleman and Albert Johnson, niece, Tracy Shaw Cain, nephew, Marcus Grasty; special friends/family, Rev & Mrs. Thomas Steelman, Jean Robinson-English, Natalie Wright, Trina Canada, TT, Allie, and Breezie and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Spirit and Truth Ministries 100 Main St. Oak Hill with Rev. Thomas Steelman, Rev. Paul Baker, Rev. William Stevens and Bishop Sam Calloway officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
