Mr. Elbie Rutland, 92, of Beckley WV, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

Born April, 25 1925 in Smock, PA, he was the son of the late Edward West and Evelyn Williams.

Elbie retired from Facilities Management for the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT.

He served faithfully as chairman of the deacon board at First Baptist Church, North Beckley.

He was predeceased by his wife, Alice "Sarah"; sister, Marvela Turner; two children, Stephen D. and Sandra E.; daughter-in-law, Vivian J. and grandson, Britt A.

Elbie leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Elbie Jr. of Ft. Washington, MD and Michael David (Rose Maria) of Mineral Springs, NC; daughter, Donna Jean (Gregory L) Everett of Windsor; eight grandchildren, Stephen Rutland of Durham, NC, Tamara Rutland of Washington, DC, John Everett of Windsor, Wynter Hawkins-Dale of Hartford, CT, Bethany Everett of Bellingham, MA, Tiffany Everett of Bloomfield, CT, Jordan Rutland of Savannah GA and Naomi Rutland of Mineral Springs, NC; brothers-in-law, Rev. James L. (Eunice) Cherry Sr. of Gainesville, VA and Wesley Cherry of Uniontown, PA; sister-in-law, Virginia Cherry of Uniontown, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 11AM Saturday, August 26 at the First Baptist Church of North Beckley, 110 Ellis St. with Rev. Paul S. Baker and Rev. Walter M. Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
