Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Gary Franklin Sweatte, 62, of Beckley died January 15, 2024.

Born March 8, 1961, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of Gwendlyn Ward Sweatte Grant, and the late Nathaniel Sweatte.

Gary was a 1977 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.

Gary’s self-employed business was framing artwork and he was also employed at Walmart. Gary loved to work on his cars.

In addition to his father, Gary was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Allen E. and Mary E. “Ma Teenie” Hughes; paternal grandparents, Malachi and Ethel L. Sweatte; sister, Cheri Lynn Sweatte; and brother, Randy C. Sweatte.

In addition to his mother, Gwendlyn Grant, those left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Julianna Sweatte of Beckley; daughters, Maria Cook and Atiyyaat Belcher, both of Beckley and Brittanee Thomas of FL; bonus children, Tyvion, Dajah’Nae, Sir Michael, Amaya, Akira, Lorena, and Jayden; brother, Kevin (Amirah) Sweatte of Winston Salem, NC; sister, Cynithia Fuller of Danville, VA; sister-in-law, Andrea Sweatte of Beckley and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

As per his request, he has been cremated.

Family directed memorial service will be 1:00PM Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Free & Independent Holiness Church 106 7th St. Beckley with Elder Thomas Allen officiating.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one-hour prior.
