Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. George Gaylor Stephens, 72, of Mt. Hope died Sunday, March 26, 2017.

Born May 15, 1944 in Mt. Hope, WV, the seventh son of the late Shirley E. and Eva M. Miller Stephens.

George moved to Cleveland to live with his brother, Anthony and graduated from John Adams High School. He was an Air Policeman in the United States Air Force and received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for Alcoa Alum and John Hancock Life Insurance Company. He moved to New York with his sister, Yvonne, where he worked for the City of New York Sanitation Department. He then moved back to West Virginia and joined United Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Reno, Harwood and Joe; sisters, Laveda Brown, Princess Bradley, Emily Hammond and Mary Gray.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his brothers, Anthony ôTonyö (Alice) Stephens of Bedford Heights, OH, Clark (Sandi) Stephens of Charleston, WV; sister, Yvonne Johnson of Hempstead, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 205 S. Fayette Ave., Mt. Hope, with Rev. Phillip E. Copney Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
