Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Hewitt "Hillbilly" Grasty Jr. 60, of Harlem Heights died Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Born April 1, 1956 in Summerlee, WV, he was the son of the late Hewitt Sr. and Thelma Johnson Grasty.

A 1975 graduate of Collins High School, he served in the U.S. Army, worked various jobs, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Summerlee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tyrone Coles and ex-wife Vanessa Washington Grasty.

Left to cherish precious memories are his daughter, Dawn Grasty of Miami, FL; four brothers, Ed Grasty of Oak Hill, Edward Grasty of Barboursville, WV, Dwayne (Jackise) Grasty of Gulfport, MS, Ret. Master Sgt. Mark Grasty of Newport News, VA; sisters, Catheria Grasty Swafford of Charleston, WV, Margaret Grasty and Demetrice Grasty, both of Oak Hill, WV, Jaqueline Grasty (Ronald) Coleman of Scarbro, WV, Meloney Grasty (Greg) Rosen of Indianapolis, IN; uncle, Joe Louis Johnson Sr. of Chicago, IL; cousins, Clarence Wallace, Ella Dorsey, Delia Coleman, Albert Johnson; companion, Carlita Hiser; 4 grandchildren, one great-grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights, 416 Broadway Street, Oak Hill, with Rev. Richard Stevens and Rev. Charles Blackman officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
