Obituary For Mr. Howard A. "Red" Scott Sr.
Mr. Howard A. “Red” Scott Sr., 85, of Mt. Hope, WV passed Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Red was born May 22, 1937 in Mt. Hope, WV, he was the son of the late Charles Andrew Scott and Priscilla Helem.
Red attended DuBois segregated schools and was a member of the final graduating class of DuBois High School in 1956. He furthered his education at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Red retired as a Non-Commission Officer from the United States Air Force with 22 years of service. Upon retirement, he worked for the State of OH, Department of Liquor Control Enforcement Division as a Field Agent, and Salesman, Rollyson Car Dealership, Beckley, WV. He retired as Senior Manager, Lewis Chevrolet, Oak Hill, WV, Owner of Scott’s En- terprises, Mt. Hope, WV.
Red was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Hope, WV, and served as President of the Trustee Board, President of the Choir, and President of the Men’s Ministry. Red became a dedicated citizen for his City, County, and State with his volunteerism. He became an elected City Councilman; Commissioner of Mt. Hope Public Housing, President and Board Member Fayette County Public Defender’s Office; Member of Mt. Hope Planning Commission; Board Member of Mount Hope Community Center; member of the State of WV REACH; President of DuBois High School Reunion Committee; and past President, Mt. Hope Lions Club.
Red, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his siblings, Blanche Wheeler, Mae Catherine Banks, L. Bonnie Webb, Dorothy Brown, Betty Payne, Jacqueline Woodson, Juanita Walton, Georgianna Woolley, Alice Poindexter, and Charles Nathaniel Scott; stepson, Mark Portee and cousin and best friend, Charles Arthur Ross.
Red leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Kathleen Leonard Scott; daughters, Lucretia Marie Scott of Teaneck, NJ, Nicole Monique Scott of Cincinnati, OH and Kathleen Naima (Don) Sullivan of Suffolk, VA; sons, Howard Andrew Scott II of Baltimore, MD and Andre J. Portee of Mt. Hope, WV; mother of his children, Shirley Taylor Scott of Cinti., OH; daughter-in-law, Eleese Bohannon-Scott of MD; grandchildren, Howard Andrew Scott III, Heleese Andra Scott, Nicolas Taylor Scott Boxley, Haaliyah Aneese Scott, Haven Aysha Scott, Alnisha (Aaron) Ellington, Hassan Malik Portee, Hanif Murell, Jasmine Hickman (Rashad) Lowery, Amirah Portee, Noel Hickman, Latif Portee, Jalil Portee, Roger Hickman III and Josiah Portee; great-grandchildren, Liam Jru Scott Merchant, Ah- risa Ellington, Aaron Ellington II, Azil Ellington, Rashad Lowery, Jaquan Wise, Isaiah Lowery, and Joy Lowery; great-great-grandchild, Zyrie Ellington and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend
Funeral service will be 1:00PM Saturday, October 22, 2022 at United Missionary Baptist Church 205 S. Fayette Ave. Mt. Hope with Rev. Matthew J. Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
