Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Jerry Earl Edmonds Jr., 73, of Henderson, NC, formerly of Beckley, WV, departed this life on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in his home.

Born on September 3, 1943, he was the son of the Parthenia Fountain Edmonds of Beckley, WV and late Jerry Earl Edmonds Sr.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Stratton High School. While there he was an all-American Athlete and sports enthusiast. He went onto attend Bluefield State College where he was a college athlete.

He married the love of his life, Joan Powell Edmonds of Beckley, WV, who preceded him in death after 46 years of marriage.

Over the course of his work career, Jerry worked for Ford Motor Company, Glaxo and E.T.C.

He accepted Christ into his life in 2014 and was an active member at Brookston Baptist Church.

He devoted his life to sharing his love of tennis with youth and adults alike. As the founder of the Jerry Edmonds School of Tennis, he taught the sport throughout the nation and was a lifetime member of the US Tennis Association. In addition to his father and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin ôBennyö Edmonds.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Parthenia Fountain Edmonds; son, Jerry (Dorcel) Edmonds, III of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two grandchildren, Jerrica Edmonds of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Jerry Edmonds, IV of Lexington, KY; one great-grandchild, Storie Kelley of Roanoke Rapids, NC; brother, Timothy Edmonds of Maryland and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Tuesday 1:00pm September 13, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church 304 Worley Road Beckley with Rev. Thomas V. Moore and Rev. Nathaniel Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
