Obituary For Mr. Kenneth Lee Borders Sr.

Mr. Kenneth Lee Borders Sr., 85, of Beckley WV died Friday, October 11, 2019. Kenneth was born May 15, 1934 in Eccles WV, he was the son of the late Foster and Mary Grant Borders. Kenneth was a graduate of Stratton High School, where he met and married Lucy Jones. Kenneth lived a life of service to others, having served in the United States Army, where he received numerous medals. Kenneth went on to have a long-standing career at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Beckley. Upon retirement, he served as an avid caretaker, until his illness prevented him from doing so.

Kenneth loved spending time with his family, especially grandkids he was a loving faithful husband, father, brother, granddad, uncle and friend. As head of the Borders family, Kenneth instilled family first and respect for others. He was a calming and gentle presence in our lives. He had many monikers gifted to him by the family to include Pop Pop, Unc, Granddaddy and even, Mr. Borders. He answered to all of them.

Kenneth, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Jones Borders; son, Kenneth Borders II; daughter, Gloria Borders; granddaughter, Miranda Borders and grandson, Franklin Borders Jr. Kenneth leaves to cherish precious memories his son, Franklin (Renée) Borders of Beckley WV; daughters, Sharon Borders of Pontiac, MI, Debra Borders and Stephanie (Bobby) Sanders, both of Beckley WV; brother, Alfred (Lilly) Borders of Fairborn OH; sisters, Catherine Penn of Canton OH, June Franklin of Euclid, OH and Mary McLean of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Catherine (Mark) Gilbert of Woodbridge VA, Nicole Borders, Joneece (Shane) Pendley and Renee McInnis, both of Beckley; Moneece Borders of Pontiac MI; grandsons, Byron Newbold, Charles Borders, Juan Schofield, all of Beckley and Jonathan (Sharisse) Johnson of Pontiac, MI; great-grandchildren, Joshua Macado, Donovan Borders, Chesnee Borders, Chelsi Smith, Kennadi Smith, Lauren Schofield, Kent McGinnis, Sydney McCray, Danyelle McCray, Jeremiah McCray, Lamya Walker, Malia Walker, Cory Law, Leland Pendley, Madison Dennard, Jesiah Borders and Nia Borders; great-great-grandchildren, Kaisyn Borders, MiLyn Carson and Kenleigh Grant and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends Visitation will be 12:00PM Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St., Beckley. District Elder Timothy Schofield will officiate. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
