I Have Fought a Good Fight. I Have Finished My Course. I Have Kept the Faith. II Timothy 4:7

Mr. Lewis (Louis) A. Motley Jr. 88, of Beckley, WV, after a brief illness received a summons from the Lord to enter into his eternal rest on August 28, 2024.

Lewis (Louis) heard and answered the call at The Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV.

Lewis (Louis) was born on March 25,1936 to the late Lewis A. Motley, Sr. and Courtney Motley Spann in East Park, WV where he later attended elementary school.

Lewis (Louis) was an Alumni of Stratton High School’s graduating class of 1954 where he was actively involved with the Stratton High School Bulldogs Basketball Team.

Lewis (Louis), after graduation, joined the United States Army where he served faithfully and during this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Queen Esther Moore. To this union, three daughters and one son were born.

Lewis (Louis) was a great family provider; as a young husband and father he was an employee of Greenbrier Dairy, Beckley. After the dairy ceased operating in the city of Beckley, he then transferred and faithfully traveled the WV Turnpike for twenty plus years rain, snow, sleet, or sunshine as an employee of Borden’s Dairy in Charleston,
WV, where he worked until his retirement. Retirement was not for him! He applied, was hired, and gainfully employed at Tamarack of Beckley for numerous years.

Lewis (Louis), residing in East Park after his military, became a member of Welcome Baptist Church, along with the family, where he remained for over sixty plus years, serving faithfully on the Ushers Ministry until his health began to fail.

Lewis (Louis), a United States Army Veteran, was also very active in civic functions: a long-standing member of the Order of Elks, The Shriners, The Men’s Civic Club, The Duke and Duchess Organization, he was also a 33rd Degree Mason, and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, among others.

Lewis (Louis), well-liked and loved by many, was affectionately called “Bug” or “June” by those who knew him from his early East Park years.

Lewis (Louis) was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Queen Esther Motley; son, Lewis Motley III; and brother, Vercell Motley.

Lewis (Louis) leaves to cherish precious memories his daughters, Scarlette (Tommy) Reid of Goose Creek, SC, Sheryl (Clarence) Williams, of Jacksonville, FL, and Kathryn (Stanford) Jennings of Alpharetta, GA; sister, Nancy Motley Williams of Chicago, IL; brother, Vernon Spann of Chicago IL; special brother, Jimmy (Maxine) Motley of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Dickey Motley; a host of nieces, other nephews; sister-in-law, Delores Robinson, Beckley, WV; brother-in-law, Charles (Evelyn) Moore of Palm Coast, FL, and other relatives and friends.
