Obituary For Mr. Lonnie Eugene Dearing

On March 6, 2021, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Lonnie Eugene Dearing was called home to be with the Lord. Born on May 6, 1955 to Clyde A and Betty Christian Dearing. Lonnie was proceeded in death by his mother, Betty. Lonnie was baptized at an early age at Hilltop Baptist Church, Hilltop, WV. He graduated from Mt Hope High School, where he excelled in sports and academics. After high school Lonnie attended Beckley College where he studied Drafting. Lonnie worked several years at Columbia Gas. Lonnie was a member of the Carpenters Union for more than 20 years. He was a dedicated worker and a skillful craftsman. He never left the house without his signature flannel shirt and contagious smile. He was the heart and soul of any room. He never knew a stranger and always made you feel welcome and valued. He was a source of support and encouragement to the neighborhood kids and adults alike. If you knew Lonnie, you loved him. He loved to make people laugh and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mourning his passing, yet blessed to have enjoyed him for many years, are his beloved wife, Gloria Hughes Dearing of Oak Hill, WV; father; Clyde A Dearing of Hilltop, WV; son, Lamond Dearing (Linda) of Bridgeport, WV; daughter, Tiffannee Hughes of New Albany, IN; brothers, Larry Dearing (Gaile) of Richmond, TX and Lynn Dearing (Celestine) of Cleveland, OH; sisters, Debra Dearing Gilchrist (Tim) of Columbus, OH and Carol Robinson Dearing of Cleveland, OH; 5 grandchildren, DeMarcus, Jayda, Malik, Lylah and Luka; 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

Lonnie was one of the kindest friends I had the good fortune to know as a kid, always helpful and respectful. I have tried to pass his fine example of friendship on to others. We were all truly blessed to know him.

Lonnie was a very strong presence during my childhood. Often, he would ride with my Father Michael "Wendell" Redd to Ohio to pick me up so I could spend time in Greentown. He always had a smile for me and without fail was always truly so very kind. To hear of this loss makes me happy that I knew him and cry for the memories courtesy of him. May God be with the family through this time. Marc Redd aka "Lil Wendell"
