Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Raymond Jerrod Whitley, 44, of Wheeling, WV, formerly of Oak Hill departed this life Sunday, April 16, 2023 following a sudden illness.

Raymond was born May 6, 1978, in Beckley WV, he was the son of Catheria Grasty Swafford.

Raymond graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1996. After graduation, Raymond joined the United States Army. Upon returning home, he held several jobs in the area with his last employment being Centre Foundry & Machine Company, Wheeling, WV, where he worked as an Iron Furnace Operator.

Raymond was preceded in death by his grandparents Hewett and Thelma Johnson Grasty Sr.; uncles, Hewett Jr., Dwayne Lee, and Ed Allen Grasty; cousins, Donnell McDowell and Fredrick Penn.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Catheria Grasty Swafford; son, Jacob M. Mullins (Trinity) and granddaughter, Taelynn Mullins, all of Charleston, WV; sister, Tracy Grasty-Cain, (Linda) of Lexington, SC; aunts, Margaret Grasty and Demetrice “Micky” Grasty, both of Oak Hill, WV, Jacqueline Grasty (Ronald) Coleman of Scarbro, WV, and Meloney Grasty (Greg) Rosin of Indianapolis, IN; uncles, Mark Grasty of Newport News, VA, Edward “Red Dogg” Grasty of Barboursville WV; great-uncle, Joe L. Johnson of Chicago, IL; special niece and nephew, Kamiko “Allie” Shaw and Brandon Shaw and a host of cousins, other family and friends.

A memorial service is being planned for 12:00PM Sunday, September 3, 2023 in Oak Hill, WV.
