Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Robert B. Beard Sr., 70, of Beckley, WV, passed away on December 28, 2023, following a chronic illness.

Robert was born on February 12, 1953 in Welch, WV, to the late James Beard and late Mable Staples Beard.

Robert was a coal miner and he was a gifted mechanic who loved to work on cars in his spare time. He was a caring and
compassionate person who often stopped to help others who were on the side of the road with car trouble. He enjoyed racing cars. Robert was also “good with his hands” and he spent time woodworking and making furniture. He enjoyed taking pictures of his family, his cars, and pictures of nature. He was a hard worker and he prided himself in taking care of his family.

Robert was injured in a coal mining accident in October of 1983 which left him permanently disabled. He spent the rest of years with family, enjoying his favorite foods, TV shows, and he loved listening to Michael Jackson and James Brown.

Robert, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death his sister, Rolean Williams; brother, Bobby Little; niece, Andrea Danielle Jones; son-in-law, Jeffrey Logwood and brother-in-law, Andrew Jones.

Robert leaves his four children to cherish his memory, Andrea Beard Logwood, Pamela Beard, Cynthia Beard, Robert Beard Jr. (Shauna),; brother, Charles Beard (Donita); sister, Gladys Marie Beard; 11 grandchildren, Arianna Logwood, Adaija Logwood, Kylah Beard, Jonathan Moore Jr., Amya Moore, Arabella Beard, Karelia Cousins, Robert Bertone Beard, Jabaari Broxton, Miura-Shai Beard, and Malachi Beard; ex-wife, Darlene Tunnell Beard and a host of other family members and friends.

Robert will be remembered for being a hard worker, his caring nature, sense of humor, and as a God-fearing man.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Friday, January 5, 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
142 Mool Ave. Beckley. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one-hour prior.
