Obituary For Mr. Robert D. Robinson, Sr.
Mr. Robert D. Robinson Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg, WV.
Robert was born September 6, 1932, in Beckley, WV to the late George A. Robertson and Belva M. (Leftwich) Robertson.
Robert was fostered by Emma Henderson around 1935 due to the death of his parents. In his younger years, he attended public schools in Raleigh and Wyoming Counties.
Robert married the love of his life, Barbara Zelda Robinson, in May of 1953 in Beckley.
Robert worked for the Board of Public Works for the City of Beckley for over 60 years.
Robert was an entrepreneur at heart. Throughout his life he operated a radio/television repair shop, local cab and limousine service, a construction company, real estate company, and many other ventures.
Robert displayed a wonderful knack for solving problems, no matter how large or small.
Robert truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Zelda Clemmons Robinson; son, Robert D. Robinson Jr.; brothers, William, George, John, and Royal Robertson, and foster brother, Donnell Freeman; and sisters, Mary, Katherine, and Goldie Robertson.
Robert leaves to cherish his precious memories his children, Marvin Robinson (Janine) of Beckley, WV, Roger Robinson (Jacqueline) of Beckley, WV, Belva Jones (Thomas) of Beckley, WV, Valarie Hall (Jon) of Beckley, WV, along with his grandchildren Aaron Hall and Barbara Hall, who he referred to as his children; Marie Moten of Beckley, WV, Samantha Tramble of Cocoa, FL, Corrina Robertson of Durham, NC and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family and friends.
Funeral service will be 12PM Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley with Bishop Fred T. Simms, Rev. Gregory Claytor, Pastor Luke Hodges, and Rev. Walter Leach officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.
Friends may view and visit with the family one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
