Obituary For Mr. Ronnie Dean Lewis

Mr. Ronnie Dean Lewis, of Oak Hill, WV passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at home, at the age of 72, following a long illness.

Ronnie was born on April 19, 1950 in Long Branch, WV to John and Doretha Lewis, who preceded him in death, as well as his six brothers, Thomas, Leon, Jessie, Harry, Charles, and Don.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen Virginia Riddick Lewis; daughters, Catherine Lewis (Ryan) Wente and Danielle Renee (Patrick Webb) Lewis; grandchildren Alexandria Evelyn, Samuel Isaac Wente, Matthew Dean, Mary Elizabeth, Malachi James, and Myles Edward Webb and a host of nephews and nieces and faithful German Shepherd, Amadeus.

Ronnie graduated from Mount Hope High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He was an accomplished athlete and played both high school and college basketball and went on to a successful 35year teaching and coaching career at Oak Hill High School. Coach Lewis taught history and served as a mentor and role model for generations. He absolutely loved teaching and coaching and gave his all to his family and students. His smile and his enthusiasm were contagious. Ronnie was also an avid hunter and fisherman and was featured, along with his father, John Lewis, in an issue of Field and Stream magazine. He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren and an integral part of the community. He was an excellent chess player and enjoyed gardening, reading, watching sports and documentaries, and most of all spending time with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Helen, their daughters and their six grandchildren. He was much loved by all and will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00PM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St., Beckley with Pastor Shannon Robinson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronnie Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund at https://everloved.com/life-of/ronnie-lewis/donate/.
