Obituary For Mr. Sammie Robinson Jr.

Mr. Sammie Robinson Jr., 74, of Winston-Salem, NC formerly of Coalburg, WV died Sunday April 28, 2019.

Born in Coalburg, Kanawha County, WV on October 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Sam and Willie Mae Johnson-Robinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded him in death by his sisters, Catherine Sturdivant and Lille Mae Robinson and brother, Robert Robinson.

Sam accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Coalburg Baptist Church, Coalburg, WV. He attended East Bank Senior High and graduate in the year 1964. As a young man he played sandlot basketball with Jerry West at the Cabin Creek Missionary School in Cheylan, WV.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he earned several medals including the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Good Conduct. He served three years of distinction as a Field Wireman and as a Sergeant Field Fireman in the A Battery, 4th Battalion, 73rd Artillery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. After the Vietnam War, Sammie worked for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for ten years. During his tenure at CNG, he received the CNG Safe Worker and Safe Driver award. Sam also worked for American Energy Power (AEP) were he retired after 20 years of service. After retiring from AEP, Sam worked as a security guard at the West Virginia State Capitol.

Left to cherish precious memories his brother Steve (Carolyn) Robinson of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Annie (George) Grooms and Joyce Robinson, both of Chesapeake, WV. sister-in-law, Rudy Robinson of Charleston, WV and a host of children he raised as his own, grandchildren. nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 12:00PM Friday May 10, 2019 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church 11744 MacCorkle Ave. Chesapeake, WV. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston, WV.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
