Obituary For Mr. Thulbert Lee Neely

Mr. Thulbert Lee Neely, 71, of Beckley, WV passed Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Thulbert was born to the late Ernest James Neely, Sr. and Darcus Marie Bradshaw Neely on March 21, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Thulbert received his formal education in Philadelphia and was a 1968 graduate of Germantown High School. In addition, he was a graduate of Howard University, Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology; Temple University, Philadelphia, PA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy; New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry with a Master’s Degree in Public Health – Health Administration from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Brunswick, New Jersey and received a License for Nursing Home Administration from the Temple University School of Business and Finance.

Thulbert spent many years serving the city of Philadelphia in the Department of Public Health as Director of Pharmaceutical Services as well as Assistant Director of Health Promotion & Disease Prevention. Upon relocating to Beckley, WV with his family, he was a registered pharmacist in WV and continued serving the community as well as surrounding counties in that capacity.

Thulbert was a member of the United Methodist Temple in Beckley.

Thulbert, In addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis and his only brother, Ernest James Neely, Jr.

Thulbert leaves to cherish his memory his son, Clifton (Rachel) Ernest Neely; multiple grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many cousins, relatives and friends

As per his request, he was cremated.

Memorial service will be 12:00PM Saturday, January 28,2023 at St. Matthew AME Church 103 Mills Ave. Beckley with Rev. Debra Smoot and Rev. Steve Gedon officiating.

    I met Thulbert in 1968 as freshman at Howard University. He has been a very good friend since then. He was my best man at my wedding. To the family I offer my deepest condolences. He will be sorely missed.

    Thulbert was a very sweet man. We enjoyed him and Phyllis at United Methodist Temple. Had not seen him since Covid interrupted our lives. Thoughts and Prayers to the family.
