Obituary For Mr. Van K. Jackson

Mr. Van K. Jackson, 61, of Beckley, WV, departed this life on December 18, 2025, in Beckley, WV, following a short illness.

Van was born on February 3, 1964, to Henrietta (Jackson) Strickland of Beckley, WV and the late Thomas "Sarge" Jackson, Sr.

Van was preceded in death by his son, Denzel Jackson; and his brothers, Charles Jackson and Thomas Jackson, Jr.

Van dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized at Central Baptist Church. He later became a member of Heart of God Ministries, where he continued to grow in faith.

Van, after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1982, proudly served a four-year term in the United States Army. Following his military service, he attended Barber College, where he mastered his craft. He later became a co-owner of OG’s Barbershop in Beckley, WV.

Van was more than a master hair care specialist; he was a servant at heart. Through his craft, he touched countless lives, serving people from all walks of life with skill, patience, and genuine care. His hands brought confidence, dignity, and comfort, but it was his heart that left the greatest impression.

Van’s work was never just about hair - it was about people. He listened, encouraged, laughed, and uplifted everyone who sat in his chair. Whether offering a kind word, quiet understanding, or simply a welcoming presence, Van had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and respected.

Van’s love for people was sincere and unwavering. He treated everyone with kindness, compassion, and grace. Many came to him as clients and left as friends, forever touched by his warmth and spirit.

Van, in his leisure time, enjoyed sports, walking the trails in Beckley, was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan for life, and had a deep love for music. His passion for the team was well known, and the phrase “We Dem Boyz - Forever Loved” perfectly captures his pride, loyalty, and the joy he carried.

Van’s legacy lives on through the lives he impacted, the confidence he restored, and the love he freely gave. He will be remembered not only for his exceptional talent, but for the way he cared deeply for others and lived his life with purpose and heart.

Van, on October 2, 2019, married Angelique Laster Jackson. Though no children were born to this union, they shared a beautiful blended family filled with love.

Van leaves to cherish and treasure precious memories his loving wife, Angelique “Angel” Jackson of Beckley, WV; his mother, Henrietta (Jackson) Strickland of Beckley, WV; four sons, Jordan Brown of Wichita, KS, Jacob Jackson of Beckley, WV, Cordaro Laster (stepson) of Beckley, WV; stepson, Diante’ Hannah of Beckley, WV; three sisters, Juanima (Brian) Jackson Jones of Beckley, WV, Charlene (Danny) Anderson Hairston of Columbus, OH and Stephanie (Carlos) Anderson Smith of Beckley, WV; eight grandchildren; including his beloved “Pop-Pop’s” grand-boy, Lenyxx Hannah, whom he loved playing dinosaurs with and sharing popcorn every day; devoted cousin, Artie Patterson; along with a host of other relatives, and friends.

Van through his hands, his kindness, and his love for people, lived a life of service — leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dignity, and grace that will never be forgotten.

Van, to many, was more than a barber; he was a trusted friend whose kindness and warmth left a lasting indelible mark.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Heart of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley. Burial will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Cemetery 130 Academy Dr. Dunbar, WV.

To The Family, God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain, But He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, And light for the way, May you fine comfort in these words. I Have Fought A Good Fight, I Have Finished My Course, I Have Kept The Faith: Henceforth There Is Laid Up For Me A Crown Of Righteousness, Which The Lord, The Righteous Judge, Shall Give Me At That Day : And Not To Me Only , But To All Them That Love His Appearing Second Timothy 4:7-8
