Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mr. Walter Jerome Thompson of Beckley, WV passed Friday, June 26, 2026. He was born on June 5, 1954, to the late Dave Thompson, Sr. and Ruth Graves Thompson.

Walter was the baby boy of nine children. He attended and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.

Walter was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Rev. Walter Leach, Pastor. He loved his family, friends and celebrating life. He worked at the Greenbrier for 20 years. He was just like his father, Dave, as he never met a stranger. He loved playing the drums at home as well as church.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Dave Thompson, Sr. & mother, Ruth Graves Thompson; daughter, Crystal Thompson; sister, Carolyn Thompson Oglesby; brothers, Dave Thompson, Jr., Larry Thompson and Anthony Thomas; his son-in-love, Brandon Robertson and his nephew, Aaron Thomas.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory his children, Derrick Thompson of Beckley, WV, Sparkle Thompson and Walter Thompson, Jr., both of Huntington, WV; long-time girlfriend, Jackie Robertson of Beckley, WV; the mother of his children, Betty Thompson of Huntington, WV; mother-in-love, Evette Brown of Beckley, WV; sons-in-love, Kahreem Robertson of Huntington, WV and Brent Robertson of Nashville, TN; three brothers, Samuel Thompson of NC, Terry Thompson of NJ and Donald (Queen) Thompson of WV; two sisters, Latisha Thomas of NC and Renee Thomas of AR; 13 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a host of nephews and nieces.

As per his request, he has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
