Obituary For Mrs. Alice Faye “Missy” Walton Nelson

Mrs. Alice Faye “Missy” Walton Nelson, 65, of Oak Hill, WV passed Friday, August 9, 2024 after her long battle with cancer.

Missy was born on April 18, 1959 in Beckley WV, daughter of Gloria Gilliam Walton and the late Roy L. Walton, Sr.

Missy started her walk with Christ at Central Baptist Church, before becoming a member at Frist Baptist Church of Harlem Heights; where she assisted in the finance department, Sunday School scholar, Black History Month church decorator, and past Chairperson of the kitchen committee. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, in 1977, where she was member of the marching band and track team. After graduating high school, she worked at varies jobs before starting a family of her own. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She showed up to every event and game they had cheering them on. Whenever they needed her, she would drop everything to be by their side. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt always there to lend a helping hand. She’s touched so many lives that knowing her was a blessing itself. In 2007 she received her associate's degree in business administration at Valley College. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening; shopping; cooking; baking; watching westerns; traveling; sitting on the porch; collecting dolls, Monopoly games, and Black History memorabilia.

Missy, in addition to her father, Roy Lee Walton Sr., was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Lee “Buggy” Walton Jr, James “Jim” Walton, and Jason Walton; father and mother-in-law, Charles Otis Nelson, Sr. and Willie Bell Abercombie Nelson; four brothers-in-law, Joesph “Joe” Nelson, Arnold David Nelson, Melton “Tink” Crummel, and William “Will” Carson, and nephew, Brandon Walton.

Missy is survived by her husband, Robert Nelson, Sr. of Oak Hil, WVl; two sons, Robert Nelson, Jr of Parkersburg, WV and Christopher (Shauna) Nelson of King, NC; two daughters, Tasha Nelson of Tobaccoville, NC and Ashley Nelson of Oak Hill, WV; six grandchildren, La’Keesha Smith and Jahzara Nelson, both of Oak Hill, WV, Imani Brown of GA, of Oak Hill, Leah Payne and Logan Payne, both of NC, and Skyler Payne of VA; great-granddaughter Ny’omi Lowe of GA; four brothers, Robert Walton (Janet) of Beckley, WV, Nathaniel Walton (Tammy) of Glenburnie, MD, Paul Walton (Mary) of Greensboro, NC, and Michael Walton (Nikki) of Creedmoor, NC; five sisters Verblena “Lena” Walton-Crummel of Harrisburg, PA,Veronica “Ronnie” Walton, Julianna “Judy” Sweatte, Diana Walton, Gloria “Vip” Thompson, Lisa Walton all of Beckley; brother-in-law Charles (Louise) Nelson Jr. of Oak Hill, WV; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Otis) Matthews of Kaymoor, WV, Carmen Nelson of Winston-Salem, NC, Linda Walton of Fairmont, WV, and Debra “Debbie” Walton of Beckley, WV and a host of special nieces and nephews, Eric Walton, Erica Walton, Tamara Walton Moore, Mario Walton, Isiah Walton, Brenton Walton, Breland Walton, Larry (LJ) Walton and Achilles Walton; special cousin, Alvah Hayes, and special friends, Julia Goard, Treasa Allen, Mary Shelton, and Damon Shelton.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Central Baptist Church 197 Brooks St. Beckley, WV with Rev. Charles Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may visit with the family one-hour prior.
