Obituary For Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Terry

Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Terry transitioned peacefully to be with her Lord, on June 17, 2022.

She was born on July 9, 1925 in Wyoming County, WV, the daughter of the late Clarence William Baker and Mary Alice (Johnson) Baker.

Early in life, she married, and from that union she was blessed with two children, Leslie Belita (Hughes) Watson and Byron Cassius Hughes.

After raising Belita and Byron, she worked at Appalachian Regional Hospital and then Raleigh General Hospital in the Dietary departments until she retired. Later in life, she married Deacon Frank Terry until God called him home. From that union she was blessed with an extended family whom she loved dearly.

She was a long-term faithful member of Central Baptist Church and anyone that knew her, knew she loved her Church. Even after being confined to a wheelchair, she would attend Church whenever she could. For many years she served on the Deaconess Board, and Senior Choir and was Vice-President of the Mission, and Chairperson of the Building Fund, as well as serving on other Boards and Committees when needed.

Anna was a 1944 graduate of Byrd Pillerman High School and served on the reunion committee for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Deacon Frank Terry; son, Byron Cassius Hughes; daughter, Leslie Belita Watson; three brothers, Chester Baker, Clarence Baker, Jr., and Earl Baker; one sister, Juanita Morris; two grandchildren, Valarie Watson and Walter Watson III; and three step-children, Bernice Blackwell and Dorothy Johnson, and Ernestine Webb.

Leaving to cherish her memory are a brother, Alphonso Baker of Providence, RI; sister, Geraldine Tyson of New Britain, CT; granddaughters, Crystal Watson, and Tracey Counts, both of Newark, NJ; grandsons, Cassius Hughes and Monty Counts, daughter-in-law, Constance Hughes of Newark, NJ; two cousins, Juanita Lloyd of Philadelphia, PA and Rita Phillips of Brooklyn, NY.

In addition, from her union with Deacon Terry, she leaves 13 grandchildren all from Gary, IN and Houston TX, 27 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She will be missed by her devoted nephew, Charles Hughes and his wife Valerie of Beckley, WV and a devoted niece Cassandra Darden and her husband, Bennie of Charlotte, NC, and her loving caregiver, Lori Mayo and the Mayo Family.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Central Baptist Church 197 Brooks St. Beckley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral service.
