Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Bessie Tynes Anderson, 92, Formally of Mullens, WV, passed away peacefully April 22, 2021, Columbus, OH at the home of her daughter, Cynthia, surrounded by her children, Mike, Melodie and Melissa.

Bessie was the daughter of the late Ferge and Octavia Saunders Tynes of Rocky Gap VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Jeremiah Anderson, whom she shared a 50 year union of marriage until his passing, September 2001; son, Jerome Anderson and was the last surviving sibling of 10 children; brothers, Lee, George, James, Leonard, Marvin Tynes; sisters, Virginia Wells, Helen Summers, Hazel Tynes and Bertha Hagwood

She was a high school graduate of Genoa High, Bluefield, class of 1947 and Bluefield State College, class of 1951. Bessie taught school in the WV, Wyoming County district on and off for numerous years, retiring from Guyan Valley School System.

She was once a charter member of NAACP, Wyoming branch and held office of Treasury and also served on Council on Aging. Member of formally First Baptist Church, Virginia Street, Mullens, WV.

She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and Gospel music.

Bessie is survived by son, Michael Anderson and wife, Kris; daughters, Cynthia Anderson, Melodie Anderson and Melissa Anderson; 12 grandchilden; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins and friends: special daughter Toya Pierre. The family thanks the Health Care and Hospice Staff at Mount Carmel Health Hospital, Columbus, OH for all the excellent care and compassion shown. The family would also like to express special gratitude to Dwyane Woods for his support.

Funeral service will be !:00PM Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St. Beckley, WV with Elder James Tunstalle Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends, while wearing gloves and masks and observing social distancing, may view from 12:00PM – 12:45PM.
