Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Catherine Lydia Gray, 97, of Mt. Hope, died Friday, August 19, 2016.

Born July 9, 1919 in Goshen, VA, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ada Hackney Nicholas.

She worked for Governor Oakey Patterson of Mt. Hope for 43? years. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook and welcomed everyone in her home.

A faithful member of The Glorious Church of God in Christ, Mt. Hope, she was Mother of the Church, an usher, kitchen cook, treasurer of the Mission, Assistant President of State Mission, Prayer band leader, and on the Program committee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Green; son, Rufus Green, Jr.; brothers, Emmitt and Russell Nicholas; sisters, Ruby Sims, Ethel Ferrell, and Thelma Hairston; grandsons, Toney, Ronald, Donald, and Kenneth; granddaughters, Tina and Lise.

Left to cherish precious memories are her only daughter, Thelma Patterson of Mt. Hope; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great grandchildren; and a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016 at The Glorious Church of God in Christ, 421 Main Street, Mt. Hope, with Bishop John Grant and Elder Thomas Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley, WV.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
