Obituary For Mrs. Clarice Maxine Royster Witten

Mrs. Clarice Royster Witten transitioned to her heavenly home on June 7, 2021 at Stonerise Beckley (formerly Harper Mills Nursing Home).

Clarice was born June 13, 1932 in Alpoco, WV to the late Robert and Evelyn Banks Royster.

Clarice graduated from Byrd Prillerman High School.

Clarice was married to Jesse Witten who preceded her in death.

Clarice moved with Jesse and other family members to New York City where she lived for many years.

Clarice was a seamstress and homemaker.

Clarice was affectionately called “Auntie” by her nephews and nieces. She loved to knit, and her knitted blankets are treasured possessions of family members who still own one.

In addition to her husband and parents, Clarice was preceded in death by her son, Byron Witten; brother, Robert D. Royster; sister, Doris Royster Leftwich Venable; and nephews, Michael (Ray) Leftwich and Scott Leftwich Sr.

Clarice is survived by her son, Jesse Tyrone (Sarah Lewis) Witten of Beckley, WV; grandson, Tyrone Yuwan Lewis of Beckley, WV; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 and 1 on the way great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law of Dayton, OH; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Funeral service will be 12:00PM Friday, June 18, 2021 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S Kanawha St, Beckley with Elder David L Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing gloves and masks and observing social distancing, may view one hour prior to the service.
