Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Clementene Gray, 93, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Mt. Hope, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Born July 20, 1923, in Martinsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Frank D. Spencer and Delia S. Brindle.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended Grace Church in Des Moines; she and her husband, Rev. John D. Gray, owned and operated Loop Creek Trash Co. and together served the Lord for many years in WV. She relocated to Des Moines with her daughter, Debra, following his passing,

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Spencer; sister, Lorean White; and son, Frank D. Gray.

Left to cherish precious memories are her sons, John A. Gray, Frederick Gray and Rodney (Doris) Gray, all of Mt. Hope, WV, and Glen (Marieia) Gray of Landover, MD; daughters, Trishia (Linwood) Daniels of Camden, NJ, and Debra (John) Swafford of Des Moines, IA; sister, Ancona Simmons of PA; stepbrother, Thaddeus Pannell of Ohio; 31 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 28, at United Missionary Baptist Church, 205 So. Fayette Ave., Mt. Hope, with Rev. Phillip Copney Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
