Obituary For Mrs. Doris Kathleen Smith Johnson

Mrs. Doris Kathleen Smith Johnson, daughter of the late Clarence and Willie Nell Edwards Smith was born February 17, 1930 in Le Junior, Kentucky.

God in his infinite wisdom called her to eternal rest and peace on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Hilltop Nursing Home, Hilltop, WV.

“Katie”, as she was better known; accepted Christ as her savior at the age of 13 ;and was a member of Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church; educated in Raleigh County and graduating from Stratton High School in 1947.

In 1948 Katie married Marcellous Johnson and three children were born from this union.

Katie and her husband worked for more than 45 years upholstering as they were well known for their excellent workmanship - upholstering pieces of furniture for Jay Rockefeller when he was governor of West Virginia.

Katie loved the Lord and was a faithful prayer warrior, praying several times daily with prayer partners, Majorie Tullius, Willogene Brown and her sister, Nancy.

Quoting, daily her favorite scripture.

Hebrews 10:35-37: 35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marcellous Johnson; son, Marcellous, Jr.; daughters, Cynthia Johnson Hoover and Sybil Johnson; brothers, Andrew, Donald and Clarence Smith and granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson.

Katie leaves to cherish precious memories her, sisters, Nancy Crump of Beckley, WV and Betty McClendon of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Kenneth Smith, Los Angeles CA; great-grandchildren, Kathleen Clark of Oak Hill, Matthew Bigby, Lynn Crump and Janetta Crump, all of Beckley, Cynthia Jackson, Lamont Jackson and Quentin Jackson, all of Washington, DC; great-great-granddaughter, Victoria Jackson of Washington DC; devoted friend, Sherbadean Clark and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Fellowship Memorial Baptist, Church 201 Terry Ave, Oak Hill, WV with Pastor Pete Lokant officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
