Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Eloise Jeanette Leftwich-Poole, 76 of Beckley, WV died Tuesday April 5, 2022 following a short illness.

Born October 10, 1945 in Slab Fork, WV, she was the daughter of the late John and Mattie Leftwich II.

Mrs. Poole was one of nine children, having starting her schooling at Slab Fork at Slab Fork Elementary School. After her family moved from Slab Fork to Beckley (East Park) in 1956, she attended East Park Elementary and was a 1965 graduate of Stratton High School. After graduating Eloise reside in Columbus, OH and Pontiac, MI before moving back to Beckley.

Eloise was employed at Beckley Manufacturer, Pine Lodge Nursing Home and Richmond Dry Cleaners until their closing. Eloise provided daycare in her home for several working mothers that had children and enjoyed caring for the elderly Mrs. Goins reside on Rice St.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Allen; sister, Carolyn Phillips; three brothers, Lionel “Dickie”, Stanley and John Leftwich III. Survivors include her sons, Dennis Poole of Jacksonville, FL and Todd Leftwich of Athens, GA; granddaughter, Aanesh Poole of Columbus, OH; grandson, Brandon “BamBam” of Athens, GA; sister, Denese Leftwich-Hairston of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, James and Larry (Deloris), both of Columbus, OH and Lee (Michelle) of Beckley, WV; sister-in-law, Patty Leftwich of Beckley, WV and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

As per her request, she has been cremated.

Memorial service will be at 12:00pm Saturday, May 28, 2022 at St. Matthew AME Church 103 Mills Ave. with Pastor Deborah Smoot officiating.
