Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Elsie Choice Hopkins, 93, of Schenectady, NY, formerly of Edmond and Winona WV, died Thursday, April 7, 2016.

Born October 6, 1922 in Winona, WV, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Allen and Early Matthew Choice.

Elsie taught in Fayette County Schools, was a member of United Baptist Church, Winona, First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, TN, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Hopkins, Sr.; son, James William Hopkins, Jr.; brothers, Lawrence, Belmont, Delmas, Otis, William, Early Matthew, Alfred, and Emory Choice and sisters, Vivilora Hurt, Ledia Bowles, Jessie Bolden, and Marion Jones.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her daughter, Sheila Hopkins (Phillip) Gravely; three granddaughters; four grandsons; four great-granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 S. Fayette St., Beckley, with Pastor Shelly Bausley officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Lane Cemetery, Lookout. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideons International.
