Obituary For Mrs. Frances Melissa Hurtte Walton

Mrs. Frances Melissa Hurtte Walton, 90, went to sleep quietly and peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022. Born January 29, 1932 in Red Star, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Laura Agnes Kessler Traynham. Frances graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley. She was a Dietary Supervisor of Raleigh General Hospital, retiring after 25 years of service and was a caregiver for Gov. Hulett C. Smith for many years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Mabscott, joining at the age of thirteen, where she served as Mother of the Church, Hospitality Chairperson and devoted Missionary and Community Outreach Person. Frances will always be remembered as Mother Hurtte, as she was preceded in death by husbands, Samuel Lee Walton and Lawrence R. Hurtte; her son, Lawrence Lorenzo Hurtte and sisters, Barbara Hurtte, Maxine Carter and Dorothy Colston. Mother Hurtte leaves cherished memories with her daughter, Kay (Rev. Melvin) Davis of Charleston; sons, John (Betty) Hurtte of Murrieta, CA and Beverly (Bertha) Hurtte of Raleigh, NC; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 1:00PM, Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley, with Rev. Melvin Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Email condolences to ritchiejohnsonfuneralparlor@gmail.com.

    Mother Hurtte was a wonderful woman of God . She a very sweet spirit and a wonderful countenance. I remember the good times we had at First Baptist Mabscott. I will always cherish the memories that was made there with her. Jesus let us know that to know that to be absence from the body is be presence with the Lord.
