Obituary For Mrs. Helen H. Mitchell

Mrs. Helen Hayes Mitchell 1931-2022

“It's hard to forget someone who gave so much to remember ''

Mrs. Helen Hayes Mitchell returned to her heavenly home on January 24, 2022.

Helen was born to the late Ellen Cooper on September 14, 1931 in Reform, AL. She received Christ as her personal Savior at age twelve and demonstrated His fruits throughout her life. She worked as a beautician at Stone & Thomas Beauty Salon in Charleston, WV for fourteen years. Helen married Hannah Mitchell, who preceded her in death, in 1976.

Helen is survived by her children: Robin Cox, Shameka Mitchell, and Jazmine Dorcas; grandchildren: Jonathan Moore Jr, Jontaya Moore, Jordan Thompson, Mark Walker Jr., Metra Dorcas, Udo Dorcas, John Rogers Jr., Blue Dorcas, and Xavier Dorcas; and her great-niece: Jerry D. Jackson.

Helen was an outstanding Mom, Maw-Maw, wife, and friend. Helen was a strong hard-working woman her entire life. She enjoyed music, makeup, and loved anything gold. Helen was the “ Rock” of our family. She was a God-fearing woman, who poured spiritual guidance into those around her. She attended Heart of God Ministries. In her free time she would fish and care for her award-winning yard of the year. Her favorite place to vacation was Myrtle Beach, SC.

Helen will be remembered by her steadfast faith, devotion to her family, cosmetics, and humor. She will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral service will be 1:00PM Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Heart of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family thirty minutes prior to the funeral service.

Our Aunt Helen taught us that it is okay to be openly free to express ourselves; to be who we are. Aunt Helen had her own sense of style and fashion that was fun which can be attributed to her fondness for makeup and work as a beautician. She always let us know what was the latest trend. Aunt Helen was one who bloomed in our hearts and will never be forgotten. We will miss her especially at the family reunion picnic. We pray for peace to grieve for our Auntie from a place that lies within each of us. Forever in prayer. Arnita Mitchell Branch

Family of Helen! I met Helen as a bank customer and she was the sweetest and most caring lady. She always dressed like a Queen, nice makeup, pretty smile and always a lovely personality. We loved her dearly at the old BECKLEY NATIONAL BANK. She was a beautiful angel on earth and now she is a beautiful angel in heaven. Love and prayers to her lovely family: Frances Bryant Hopkins, retired from Chase Bank. 🙏❤️🙏❤️

This is so sad. I have known Helen for most of my life. If there is such a thing as an angel in a human body, Helen was. She had a kind and big heart. Robin, I ask God to give you peace during this difficult time. Please give Brenda my condolences. Love to you both.

May the peace and comfort of God be upon the family of Mrs. Mitchell. I feel extremely blessed to have spent time with her before she recieved her wings and for my daughter and husband to have the oppurtunity to have met her. I remember her coming up to Columbus to diligently check out the decoratives in the hot shopping areas and also join us for church. She had an natural eye for decor and always welcomed us as her own whenever we came through Beckley to visit. Mrs. Mitchell will be certainly missed and the memories of her kindness will always be cherished. -Love Rachelle (Malayah & Todd) Columbus, OH
