Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Irene Wilkes, 80, of Beckley died Saturday August 4, 2018.

Born June 25, 1938 in Sullivan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Mason and Virginia Bryson Powell.

Irene was a retired educator with a BA plus 28 hours toward her Doctorate in Special Education. She worked in grades K- 9 in the public school system for 16 years.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her brother, Vona Powell of Beckley; sisters, Clara Wilson of Beckley, Marie Cain of Cleveland, OH and Patricia Braxton of Richmond, VA; sons, John Scott (Shena) of Beckley, Xavier of Chillicothe OH and Demetrius (Carrie) of Pike County, KY; special son, Marquel Ali; daughters, Virginia Scott (Tracy) of Huntington, WV and Ella Copola (Anthony) of Beckley; special granddaughter, Tahliyah Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Friday, August 17, 2018 at Welcome Baptist Church, 206 Eighth Street, Beckley with Bishop Eunice Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
