Obituary For Mrs. Joan B. Booker

Mrs. Mrs. Joan Booker was born on June 14, 1936 in Sun, WV to Jerry and Alice Booker. She was the last of 13 children. She departed this life on October 6, 2025 at Raleigh General Hospital.

She attended Dubois High School in Mount Hope, WV. Joan was a domestic worker for many teachers and doctors in the Beckley and Mount Hope area. She gave her life to the Lord and spent much of her time serving in her church, Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor David Allen, whom she loved dearly like a son and continued under the leadership of Pastor Gloria Allen in which she loves like a daughter.

Joan could sing like an angel, which was her passion, in her early years with her sisters, fondly known as the Booker Sisters. She continued to sing with numerous community choirs and served as the lead singer for her church. She was very passionate about her cooking skills and took pride in the food she lovingly prepared at her church.

Joan was proceeded in death by her parents; five sons, twins, Kevin and Kenneth; Ronson "Jay", Carl "Moochie", Lahaun "BonBon"; all 12 of her siblings; Eva Thomas, Dora Brown, Geraldine Booker, Catherine Bradford and Clara Johnson; brothers, Poteet, Bobby, Jimmy, Robert and George Booker; one brother deceased at birth; sister, Louise Brown; granddaughter, Kawana Booker; and all of her brothers-in-law.

Those left to cherish her memory, oldest daughter, Karen “Nikki” Booker of Beckley, West Virginia; Phoebe and Sherry Booker of Newport News, VA; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren special niece, Evangelist Leslie Allen; special friend, Mozella Kidd “Mopey”; her church family, Welcome Baptist Church and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Welcome Baptist Church 206 8th St. Beckley with Pastor Gloria J. Allen officiating.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may visit with the family one-hour prior.
