Obituary For Mrs. Joan M. Colvin

Mrs. Joan M. Colvin departed this life on July 28, 2020 at 209 Hunter Street, Beckley, West Virginia.

She was born on July 2, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Vernon H. Mitchell and Ritinella O. Mitchell.

She was proceded in death by: her parents and uncle and aunt, Theophus C. and Emmeline Glashen.

Joan graduated as valedictorian from Byrd Prillerman High School, from Hampton Institute now known as Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of Zeta Phi Beta. She retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education after long career in the educational profession. She was a live long educator and teaching was her life’s passion which made a positive impact on her school, music and bible students.

Joan was a previous Seventh Day Adventist being a member of the Spiritual United Church of Christ Zion and later became a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses where she was baptized May 28, 1978. She begin pioneering September 1, 1993 and served faithfully.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Robert B. Colvin of 48 years, whom she married on August 11, 1973; two sons: Michael A. Brown of Beckley, West Virginia; Robert O. (Jannie) Colvin of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Linda “Lynn” Haney, Beckley, West Virginia; two sisters, Lilac E. Mitchell, Detriot, Michigan and Verna K. Thompson, Trenton, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Charles (Kim), Terra (Ella) and Steve; two sisters-in-law, Starella (Alfred) and Shari; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Memorial service will be via Zoom, 1:00PM Sunday, August 2, 2020. Join our cloud HD Video Meeting ZOOM.US

    MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES PRAYERS TO LILAC AND VERNAN. MY DEAR SPIRITUAL SISTER LOOKEDO FOWARD TO A RESURRECT BACKTO LIFE AND SHE PREACHED THAT DOING HER LIFE ON EARTH. I REMEMBER ALWAYS TALKING TO HER WHEN I COME TO BECKLEY AND I SEE HER AT THE KINGDOM HALL. I DID NOT GOTTO GO OUT WITH HER IN FIELD SERVICE. REST IN PEACE UNTIL THE RESURRECTION BACK TO LIFE IN PARADISE.

    Such a beautiful soul! I can remember being in her class at STRATTON JR. She was such a good teacher that didn't take no stuff from her students also knew her as I became an adult. Still the same respectful lady iv always known. Take your reast beautiful lady!!
