Obituary For Mrs. Lena Lucille Lewis

Mrs. Lena Lucille Lewis was born on November 23, 1945 to the late Clinton and Daisy Poore in Kaymoor, WV.

Lena passed on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Lena, in 1965, graduated from Fayetteville High School.

Lena, after school, lived in different cities in various states such as, Detroit, MI, Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL and New York, NY.

Lena met and married Wilbur Lewis and moved back to Ansted, WV, where she worked for years at Hawks Nest State Park as a Cook. Her last job before retiring was at Fayette County Headstart where she was a Cook. The kids loved her and the food she prepared, calling her their โ€œCookerโ€. She prided herself in being a great Cook.

Lena was an active member of the church. She loved serving the Lord. After moving back to WV, she united with Mt. Chapel Baptist Church, where they formed a group called the Mt. Chapel Gospelettes for six years and sang with the church choir until her passing. She also served as the Church Clerk, Kitchen Coordinator, Treasurer of the cemetery and Senior Choir.

Lena supported her local politicians and was an Active Poll Worker over 30 years.

Lena, in addition to her mother, father and husband, was preceded in death by her sisters, Marion Jackson, Clara Poore, Elizabeth Wright and Gail Staunton.

Lena leaves to cherish her memories brothers, William Poore of Charlotte, NC, and Clarence Poore (Danita) of Suffolk, VA; sister, Claudia Davis of Oak Hill, WV and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Friday, May 12, 2024 at Mt. Chapel Baptist Church, 100 Skaggs St. Ansted, WV with Rev. Herman James officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Ansted, WV

I had the great pleasure of working with Lena both at Headstart and the Polls. We became friends and that friendship continued. I'm sure no one could count the number of meals she prepared for the children. She was a loving and very kind woman. I loved her and will miss seeing her and hearing her laugh. For many years, Lena and I were at the Ansted Post Office at the same time each afternoon. Our friendship began then. Over the years, we shared family things and other interests. I last saw her at the polls at Primary Election, and we talked briefly. She was a fine lady and I will miss seeing her smiling, beautiful face. Marilene Bibb

Aunt Lena was a lovable, respectable, & kind Woman. I do not know of a time & have no memories in which this Woman wasn't radiating a kind & calm presence, including from childhood through becoming an adult with my own children. Her character was consistent & reliable to all who had the pleasure & privilege of interacting with her. May she RIP & her legacy of compassion & kindness be reflected in some way by all who's lives she's touched. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ
