Obituary For Mrs. Loraine Rene’e Minor

Mrs. Loraine Renée Minor, age 67, of Beckley went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Born and raised in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Calvin and Mary Alice Rogers. After graduating Point Pleasant High School, Loraine earned her bachelor’s degree at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and began her thirty-three-year career as a special education teacher and administrator in Mason County, retiring as Chief of Special Education at Shady Springs High School. She subsequently worked another seventeen years as a small-business tax analyst for H&R Block.

Beyond her passion for the well-being of children, youth and adults challenged by physical and intellectual disabilities, Loraine was well known for her superb culinary skills, pouring every ounce of love into her family’s holiday meals. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting as a pastime, proudly gifting finished products to family and friends. Her love for her family, especially her husband and two daughters, was unconditional. Outgoing, always open for conversation, and known for her wit and humor, she never met a stranger.

Preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Byron Rogers, Loraine is survived and dearly missed by her beloved husband, Donald Lee Minor; her daughters, Ebony Donée Minor of Alexandria, Virginia, and Emerald Celeste Minor of Mount Hope, West Virginia; siblings, William Calvin Rogers, III, and Michael (Valerie) Rogers, both of Point Pleasant, and Alicia Ledwell Tolliver (Michael) of Cleveland, Ohio; close friends, Ernesto Ward of Point Pleasant and Anthony Ward, Sr. of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Friday, June 30, 2023 the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St, Beckley with Rev. Mittie Imani Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may view and visit with the family one-hour prior.

I worked with Loraine as a fellow educator in Raleigh County Schools. She was a fantastic caring teacher . She was a strong advocate for her students. She had a great sense of humor and was so very proud of her family.
