Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Marie Staples Williams, 85, of Beckley, died Thursday, March 10, 2016.

Born December 10, 1930 in Besoco, West Virginia, daughter of the late Nelson and Martha Carson Staples, she was the last surviving child of 17 born to that union.

Marie was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she formerly served as Deaconess and member and treasurer of the senior choir and Chairman of the Kitchen Committee. She retired from the Ramada Inn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E.; son, Charles ôChaseö; daughters, Linda and Diane; brothers, Rev. Nelson Jr., Rev. Walter, Warren, Oliver, Joseph, Darnell, Eugene, and Nathaniel Staples; sisters, Lillian, Mabel, Thelma, Anita, Lorena, Margret, and a set of un-named twins.

Left to cherish precious memories are three daughters, Patricia (Robert) Hairston of Fort Washington, MD, Betty Persinger Lewis of Beckley and Barbara (Milton) Hannah of Raleigh, NC; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one great- great- granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Carney of Bowie, MD, and Pauline Staples of Beckley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be 12:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 142 Mool Ave, Beckley, with Rev. Nelson Staples III and Rev. Jerry Staples officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
